The Eco-Hub is here!
Calling all UofG students, staff and Glasgow residents! The Glasgow University Environmental and Sustainability Team (GUEST) has launched an exciting new space in the Gilmorehill Campus: the Eco-Hub. If you feel strongly about sustainability & community building, fancy saving some money on essentials, or have an academic interest in anything environment-related, this space is for you.
The Eco-Hub has been open since the 13th of September 2024.
The Eco-Hub is a sustainable cafe, swap-shop and event space on UofG's Gilmorehill Campus. We are ran by the university's Environmental and Sustainability Team (GUEST), who are a team of student interns promoting sustainability on campus.
We serve 50p tea and coffee (the cheapest hot drinks on campus!), we run a permanent secondhand homeware giveaway 'shop', and we also collect homeware and clothing donations year-round. We run a permanent clothes and plant swap, where the clothes are also available to buy at £2.50 per item.
See here for a virtual tour of the space.
Events
Student2Student Essentials:
We host a biannual homeware giveaway event called Student2Student Essentials. Every September and January, we invite students to come to the Eco-Hub and pick up second-hand homeware that's been donated by other students.
These events meet the needs of students moving out and moving in, by providing a collection point for used items and a source of essential homeware when you've just arrived.
In September 2024, we saved over 5,000 items from landfill, and over 100 students collected homeware items! This event helps to address the cost of living crisis and overconsumption in tandem. See here for students' reviews of the event.
Bike Hub:
Our bike hub coordinator runs biweekly repair and advice sessions in the Eco-Hub, which are free to book and last half an hour. Book here.
Crafting and mending:
We host regular sustainable crafting sessions and clothes mending workshops at the Eco-Hub, which we advertise on our Eventbrite.
These sessions are free to book and open to everyone, with all the equipment provided.
GUEST and Society Events
The Eco-Hub is open to host UofG society events which are aligned with our values. In 2024 we had the Glasgow University Fashion Revolution Society, the Neurodiversity Society, the Yoga Society, the Zoology Society and others host events in our space.
The Glasgow University Environmental Sustainability Team (GUEST), who coordinate the Eco-Hub, also host a range of events in the space, which have included sustainability quizzes, climate cafes and film screenings. Keep an eye on our Instagram to see upcoming events.
