The University of Glasgow Living Support Service provides out of hours support to over 3,500 residents living in university accommodation. The team is made up of more than seventy current students and staff members across thirteen halls of residence in both Glasgow and Dumfries, who are trained to offer a confidential listening and signposting service.

The teams help with a wide range of issues including:

  • Settling into university life and independent living
  • Getting to know your halls and the local area,
  • Health concerns, First Aid, Mental Health First aid, and accessing medical help,
  • Need someone to talk to or feeling homesick,
  • Course worries, exam stress, and managing a work/life balance
  • Noisy neighbours, getting along with flatmates
  • Fire safe and responding to fire alarm activations
  • Arranging emergency repairs out of hours

They also help to build community by organising regular events for residents to meet new people, try new things, and experience what Glasgow has to offer. If you would like to collaborate on an event or campaign in university accommodation, please contact chelsea.gordon@glasgow.ac.uk.

The Living Support teams are on call from 6pm to 8am (6:30pm at Student Apartments) Monday to Friday and 24 hours at weekends. The service works closely with the Student Life Support Officer, Gatehouse Security and Accommodation Teams to ensure that residents feel safe, comfortable and supported around the clock.

We welcome University of Glasgow staff to signpost students and researchers living in halls to the Living Support service; information about what the service does and how to contact the teams at each residence can be found on the Living Support website

In an emergency, staff members can follow the Emergency and Crisis Support guidance if they have concerns about a student living in halls of residence or reach out to the Student Life Manager amy.copsey@glasgow.ac.uk if it is a non-urgent matter.
