The University has been working with students to implement feedback and help shape the experience of studying at Glasgow.

If you’re a final year undergraduate, please let us know what you think about studying at Glasgow by completing the NSS.

Our first Student Experience Strategy

We’re proud of the student experience we offer at Glasgow but know we need to continue to develop and improve it as your needs and expectations change.

Our first Student Experience Strategy was devised with this in mind, based on feedback from students and staff, to better understand your requirements and enhance the support we offer.

Our approach centres on four main themes – increasing opportunity, supporting wellbeing, improving inclusion and belonging and enhancing our digital and physical environments. We have used these themes to inform a multitude of projects which aim to make a real difference to your lives, improving the experience of studying at UofG.

Improving access to services & support

Listening to students, we identified several areas where we could improve access to health and wellbeing support.

Students who require disability support highlighted inconsistent provision and lack of alternative format learning materials. In response , we established an Alternative Formats Service to increase the volume, variety and timeliness of learning material support for those who need it.

In addition, staff and student feedback indicated significant challenges accessing NHS mental health support. This led to us becoming the first Scottish university to embed a NHS Community Psychiatric Nurse in our Counselling Team, supporting more right-first-time referrals to specialist NHS clinical services.

This works in tandem with easier to access University wellbeing and support services via a re-designed Student Portal and UofG Life app.

You also told us that loneliness and isolation can be problem for many of you, so as a result, the University and SRC are putting in place more opportunities to support and connect our diverse communities, building important relationships and support networks via a range of fun and inclusive activities.

Building community

Our approach to improving your experience focusses on staff-student partnership, promoting collaboration and the exchange of ideas. One such example is the new EcoHub, recently opened in the Boyd Orr Building on the Gilmorehill campus.

EcoHub is devised by, co-developed with and ran by students via GUEST (Glasgow University Environmental Sustainability Team), supporting students’ day to day cost of living via sustainable practices and capability building. The new facility, open to both students and staff, repurposed a redundant but fully accessible space, hosts a programme of regular activities such as clothes and plant swaps, practical workshops like repairs and sustainable crafting, and climate conversation events, including at Garscube and Dumfries campuses.

EcoHub can also be booked by student clubs and societies for events and activities, including movie screenings and presentations.

More opportunities on campus

We know your time is under pressure like never before, so to help you balance learning, earning and enjoyment, look out for more, new student internship projects on the Student Opportunities Hub. These provide exciting paid internships on a range of student-staff partnership projects across the University, enabling you to contribute to improving student community and services. Develop your skills and support each other on campus, saving time and making a difference to students, including students who commute, are neurodiverse, disabled or study online.

We are also supporting student clubs and societies, in partnership with the SRC, GUSA, GUU and QMU to engage and support your interests and passions throughout your time at UofG.

Now’s your opportunity to help shape what we do next and feed into our work to enhance your student experience…
