Volunteering at UofG: How to Get Involved
Published: 14 February 2025
Ever wanted to take up volunteering? Find out how you can get involved with the Students' Representative Council!
Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, gain valuable skills and experience, boost your CV and, most importantly, have fun!
SRC Volunteering help to make sure that you leave university with more than a degree, by advising and helping you choose volunteering options that are best for you, factoring other commitments you may have, what you can give, and what you want to achieve.
You may wish to take part in volunteering that relates to your degree subject, or you may wish to do something completely different – it’s entirely up to you. All our volunteering is categorised – e.g., Befriending & Mentoring, Children & Young People, and Refugees & Asylum Seekers – to make it as easy as possible for you to explore our opportunities and find what interests you.
Registering as a volunteer is quick and simple, and gives you access to your own unique profile which you can use to track your volunteering.
Once registered, you can browse our opportunities here. Simply click on an opportunity to register your interest, and we will be in touch as soon as we can with more information and to help you get started. You can do this on your laptop, phone or via the My SRC app!
You can use your profile to build a personalised skills record, which can be downloaded from your profile at any time and lists any hours logged, skills attained, awards received, and training attended throughout your time at university.
We formally recognise your volunteering through our various reward and recognition schemes. Our UofG Volunteering Awards are linked to your profile and range from Bronze to Diamond, encouraging you to reflect on the graduate attribute skills you have developed through your volunteering. Award winners receive a digital certificate and recognition on their Higher Education Report (HEAR) when they graduate.
