February’s LGBTQ+ History Month is an annual celebration and remembrance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history in the United Kingdom. To mark the start of the month, the South Front of the University’s Gilbert Scott building will be illuminated in rainbow colours and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) will host the raising of the Progressive Rainbow Flag which will then fly on the North flagpole throughout the month.
With the theme for the 2025 LGBTQ+ History Month being Activism and Social Change #SocialActivism, we are pleased to have our Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, and LGBT+ Equality Champion, Professor Moira Fischbacher-Smith sharing their commitment for a progressive and inclusive university community.
Rainbow Office Hours with LGBTQ+ staff. Office hours are the times when staff are available for you to see them, to discuss anything you need to. Twice a year UofG staff who identify as LGBTQ+ hold Rainbow Office Hours, typically to coincide with LGBT History Month in February and National Coming Out Day in October. Rainbow Office Hours are an opportunity for you to talk to an LGBTQ+ member of staff about LGBTQ+ issues. Rainbow Office Hours are open to colleagues and students at all levels and from all Schools and Colleges across UofG. The sessions are drop-in and you do not need to book an appointment before you attend. A list of LGBTQ+ staff participating in Rainbow Office Hours this February with times, dates, and locations are available via Sway (UofG sign-in required).
The SRC Progressive flag raising event took place on Monday 3 February at the North Flagpole.
The colleague and PGR focussed LGBTQ+ Network lit up the University in rainbow colours on Thursday 6 February at 5.15pm on the South Front of the University, followed by a reception at 5.30pm at the Hunterian Museum, with special guest speaker Rebecca Hoffman (Policy and Research Officer, LGBT Health and Wellbeing).
