Student Vaccines
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will have a team of Vaccinators available to students at University of Glasgow to offer students who have not previously been vaccinated against Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Meningitis ACWY and HPV to receive their vaccination. It is really important to protect yourself and your fellow students. Infectious diseases such as Measles, Mumps and Rubella and Meningitis can spread easily and can cause serious illness - so please protect yourself and others.
NHS GGC are offering following vaccines:
Measles/Mumps & Rubella
There has recently been an increase of measles across different parts of the UK. It is important that you are protected against this very infectious disease. If you catch Measles it can cause significant long term health problems and in the most severe cases can prove fatal. Please indicate below if you require MMR. Most people receive two doses of MMR during childhood to protect against Measles. If you have received this it gives you sufficient protection against measles.
Meningitis ACWY (MenACWY)
The meningitis ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine helps protect against meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning), which are caused by meningococcal bacteria A, C, W and Y. Young people have a higher risk of getting meningococcal disease. It is normally given at secondary school but if you have not been vaccinated it is important that you do so. Only one dose is required to give sufficient protection.
HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Vaccine- for under 25 years old only
Evidence shows the HPV vaccine helps protect people from HPV-related cancers. The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is offered to every S1 pupil in Scotland.
Getting the vaccine now protects you against future risks. HPV can lead to cancers like: head and neck cancers, cervical cancer, anogenital cancers – for example, anal, penile (penis) cancer, cancer of the vagina, and cancer of the vulva
The HPV vaccine also protects you against over 90% of genital wart infections. Only one dose is required to give sufficient protection.

African Swine Fever
Are you travelling home for the festive period? When you return to the UK, please don’t bring any meat or meat products with you – they could carry diseases such as African swine fever.
Please don’t pack any fresh, dried or cured pork or wild boar meat to bring to the UK. This includes any pork or wild boar products such as sausages, bacon, meatballs, pate, ham, salami, jerky, bakwa and rougan, and products made of pork fat or wild boar fat, such as lardo and salo. It is illegal to bring these items into the UK from most countries outside of the EU.
African swine fever is a highly contagious devastating, fatal disease of pigs caused by a virus. There is no vaccine and the majority of affected pigs die. It does not affect humans. This virus survives for a long time in pork or wild boar meat and their products.
African swine fever has caused the deaths of millions of pigs worldwide and must be kept out of the UK. It is illegal to bring meat, cheese or milk from most countries outside of the EU.
Help protect the UK’s pigs and don’t bring meat or meat products into the UK. Declare any food items to customs.
