Getting a new phone? Use your old phone to set up Multi-Factor Authentication
If you’re getting a new phone, please be aware that you will need to use your old phone to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your new device. Don’t throw it away until you’ve set up MFA!
Visit the UofG Information Security webpage for instructions.
If you have a new phone and no longer have access to the old one, you will need to raise a support request to have your account reset. This could leave you unable to access UofG services for a short time while Reach Out IT experts reset your account.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
MFA is a method of confirming your identity when accessing UofG systems using a combination of two different factors:
- Something you know: your username and password
- Something you have: your device(s) - smartphone and/or tablet
The second layer of security protects your account so that even if someone else obtains your password, they are unlikely to also have your second step, e.g. your smartphone.
