Calling all Glasgow residents! Are you ready to embark on a journey of cultural discovery and sustainability? Join us as we delve into the fascinating world of Indonesian Sustainable Wisdom for The World, where diversity, tradition, and innovation converge to shape a brighter future for all.

Imagine being whisked away to the enchanting island of Bali, where vibrant colours, tantalizing aromas, and rhythmic melodies beckon you to explore its timeless beauty.

Indonesia, the gem of Southeast Asia, is not just about stunning Bali beaches and mouthwatering cuisine. It's a treasure trove of cultural diversity and ancient wisdom that's set to revolutionize the global sustainability game!

Picture this: Over 200 ethnic groups, 1340 races, and a whopping 715 local languages! That's the vibrant tapestry of Indonesian heritage that's waiting for YOU to explore.

As we strive for sustainability, Indonesia faces its fair share of challenges, from political intricacies to infrastructural improvements. Yet, amidst these hurdles, lies an opportunity to harness the power of local wisdom, to forge innovative solutions that honour our heritage while propelling us towards a more sustainable future.

Enter the Nusantara Festival – your passport to a world of sustainable marvels! From lip-smacking cuisine to cutting-edge fashion, and yes, even mind-blowing tourism ventures, we've got it all. And did we mention the captivating cultural performances?

But what sets this festival apart is its deeper purpose – a rallying cry for global cooperation in the pursuit of sustainability. Through engaging products fair, talk shows, cultural performances, and collaborative initiatives with Scottish societies, we aim to not only celebrate Indonesian culture but also ignite a spark of curiosity and inspiration among our Glasgow friends.

And speaking of Glasgow, did you know that in the heart of West-End Glasgow lies a thriving Gamelan community? Glaswegian enthusiasts have embraced this traditional Indonesian music not only as a means of cultural preservation but also as a form of mental health support, showcasing the universal power of music to uplift spirits and foster connection across cultures. And there's more! Explore additional slices of Indonesian culture at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre in Maryhill, where a diverse array of traditional masks and puppets awaits, each with its own story to tell. Through performances featuring these puppets and Gamelan at our event, you'll gain insight into Indonesian local wisdom and traditions.

The potential for Indonesian local wisdom as a collaborative solution for sustainability is massive. In 2022, several organizations from Indonesia and the United Kingdom launched the Altermatter project to develop alternative materials from waste. The project resulted in innovative materials such as sustainable seashell waste-based materials, biodegradable interior materials, repurposed cigarette butts, and new furniture designs.

So, mark your calendars for June 6th, 2024, and join us at GUU (Glasgow University Union) as we come together to celebrate the harmony of tradition and innovation, paving the way for a more sustainable future – one beat, one step, one community at a time. Plus, your registration for the event includes a special Indonesian souvenir as a token of appreciation for your support in preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage!

Let's make history together, as we embrace Indonesian Sustainable Wisdom for The World.
