With more than one in four undergraduate students at UofG coming from lower-income backgrounds, COVID-19 has presented us with some unique challenges. But we are committed to supporting our student community and we set up the COVID-19 Response Fund.
Since March 2020 a huge £1,277,176 had been awarded from the Student Hardship Fund to 2,141 students.
We understand that the financial strain that the COVID-19 crisis is placing on our students is unprecedented.
With more than one in four undergraduate students at UofG coming from lower-income backgrounds, COVID-19 has presented us with some unique challenges. But we are committed to supporting our students community. We set up the COVID-19 Response Fund so our community of supporters could contribute towards our vital research and help students most in need.
Our Widening Participation Team have been working tirelessly to identify those in need and are awarding funds as quickly and effectively as possible. The needs of our students vary, many are living far away from relatives, have been in care or are estranged from their families.
Barbara, featured in this video, was a recipient of the fund. Thanks to this additional support she was able to meet her living costs at this difficult time.
