HOW YOU CAN HELP
Student Listeners exist to support their fellow peers with the many issues which they may face throughout university life. The Student Listeners are recruited, trained, and supervised by Student Listeners Trainers who are all qualified counsellors or psychotherapists.
Students can book into any of our college based services regardless of which college they study in. We can help with all sorts of concerns:
- Stress and worry
- Feeling isolated or lonely
- Processing change and settling into a new city
- Making friends and navigating a social life at University
- Worries about relationships and family members or friends at home
- Worries about money
- Feeling homesick
- Struggling with workload or course stress
- The challenges that come along with independent and communal living
We are not counsellors but friendly, empathetic and incredibly well-trained listeners.
Sometimes students may feel a little nervous about booking a session for the first time, you can play a key role in supporting them to access peer to peer support.
How you can support our service
- Signposting students to our pages – You can show them round our website, encourage them to find out more about the service by and help them feel more confident about booking a session.
- Help them navigate the booking system and see which sessions are available.
- If you feel the student may benefit from a peer to peer session with the students permission you can email us, and we can reach out to the student with available sessions.
If you or a student you support, teach or work with has any questions about booking a session you can contact us directly via email at studentlisteners@glasgow.ac.uk with any questions of queries.
