Clean Water & Sanitation

Clean Water & Sanitation
UofG Sport aim to educate our community about the benefits of staying hydrated, research and implement methods to increase our water-use efficiency and continue to provide safe and free water, access to sanitation and hygiene.

Stay Hydrated
UofG Sport recently highlighted the benefits of water through our Stay Hydrated campaign. You'll find educational posters located next to our free to use water stations throughout UofG Sports facilities.
When you're visiting our facilities and working up a sweat it's important to drink plenty of water.
Water helps to keep you hydrated and also has some pretty special health benefits:
- It can help with headaches and improve your mood
- Works wonders for your heart, organs and joints
- Gives you a much needed energy boost and so much more!
Keep an eye on our social media channels for more information about the health benefits of water. If you need to refill your bottle while on campus, make sure to stop off at one of our water stations!
Find your nearest water fountain using the UofG Life app’s ‘Near Me’ function.

Water saving tips
To celebrate World Water Day, Uofg Sport gave away water bottles for our community to use at our refill stations.
In Scotland we’re in a privileged position, with fresh water easily accessible from our taps but it’s still vital that we use our water wisely. We might like to moan about the rain but not all of it falls back into our reservoirs! So here’s 3 simple tips to try at home:
- Having a 10 minute shower uses up to 80 litres of water which is the same as a bath! Try if possible to keep your showers to under 5 minutes.
- If you’re loading the washing machine, make sure it is full before use and where possible keep it to 30 degrees.
- Heating the kettle for a brew? Try to only boil the amount of water you need.

UofG Sport water usage
UofG Sport is dedicated to improving our energy and water usage. We recently invested in new, innovative Electrolux washers and tumble dryers, designed to use the lowest possible water, energy and detergent consumption, save money and time, and embrace a sustainable lifestyle. We pride ourselves in having first class facilities and offering an outstanding customer experience as well as being sustainable.

Sustainability at The University of Glasgow
In a world which is increasingly uncertain and dominated by major shocks, our students, colleagues and other members of our UofG community care about how our University can be a force for good and enact sustainable social impact. Find out how UofG is ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
