Ross Thompson
Meet Ross Thompson
UofG Sport Bursar and Scotland international rugby union player

Ross Thompson is a final-year law student, a UofG Sports Bursar and a Pro14 rugby player for the Glasgow Warriors.
Ross has taken his four-year course part time and studied over five years to enable him to progress in professional rugby and is now a prominent fly-half for the Warriors and was recently called up to the national Scottish squad.
Ross talked with us in 2021, sharing how he was managing to balance his studies with his sporting career and highlighting how the University had been supportive of him.
Ross grew up in Edinburgh and started playing rugby at primary school and progressed through the ranks. He moved to Glasgow for university and started playing for the amateur rugby union team the Glasgow Hawks.
Ross has found combining law and rugby challenging at times, but with the flexibility shown by the university he said it's has been manageable for him – and feels it's important to have opportunities beyond rugby in the future.
Ross applied for the Sports Bursary in his first year at university and has been supported by the programme ever since.
A particular benefit for him has been the assistance it provided in building a relationship with the School of Law and getting access to lecture recordings, which enabled Ross to create the flexibility he needed to balance his studies with sport.
Combined with the demands of a Law degree and professional rugby, Ross has also had the added complications of living through Covid which he said, in some ways, has been of assistance to his university schedule!
During his final year Ross is completing a dissertation and is due to graduate in 2023. Professor John Finlay from the University of Glasgow School of Law said:
"The School is delighted by Ross’s continuing rugby success. We have been following his career with Glasgow Warriors and were excited to see him make his debut in the senior Scotland side during the autumn. We have done our best to be flexible in helping Ross manage his studies during his degree, but combining the twin demands of professional rugby and studying for a Law degree is a huge challenge and it is to his great credit that Ross has worked so hard and done so well. To be given the chance to participate in the Six Nations is a fantastic achievement, and we wish Ross every success on and off the pitch."
Ross has spent much of his life in rugby and spoke highly of the significance of progressing with friends around him and the support of the squad.
