Fire safety training

SEPS Fire Safety Advisers offer several types of fire safety training.  All courses are free of charge and are for University staff or students only.  Bespoke courses are also provided in some areas where there are specific fire safety needs.

Introductory Fire Safety training
All members of staff are expected to complete an Introductory Fire Safety Awareness course on joining the University. We recommend that this training be repeated at 3-yearly intervals, as a refresher.  In combination with periodic fire drills and local information provided by the School or Service in which the individual works, this will provide an understanding of the actions needed to prevent fire and how best to respond in the event of fire. First completion by a member of staff is recorded in their individual HR learning and development record. The course is hosted in Moodle and can be accessed via the link above.

Postgraduate student are also strongly encouraged to complete this course.

Fire Safety Coordinator training
Training for members of staff appointed as local Fire Safety Coordinators, or with similar fire safety management duties, is provided by a 1/2 day course covering fire safety in greater detail and explaining the tasks that those in such roles may need to undertake in their working area.  This is a face-to-face course delivered by one of the SEPS Fire Safety Advisers. The course is typically held within the Isabella Elder Building but can be delivered locally to groups of staff based in other locations.

Anyone newly appointed as a Fire Safety Coordinator should contact the SEPS Fire Safety team to advise of their role and will be supported in this both on site and via this course. (See Contact US page)

Fire Warden training
This course runs for approximately 3 hours and is a face-to-face course delivered by one of the SEPS Fire Safety Advisers.  The course is typically held within the Isabella Elder Building but can be delivered locally to groups of staff based in other locations.  It is intended to equip anyone appointed by their School or Service as a Fire Warden with the knowledge and skills needed for this role.
