Gels
Some laboratory work involes the production and use of gels for processes such as electrophoresis. When these gels become waste it is necessary to consider the components of the gel (e.g. ethidium bromide) and make an assessment of whether these result in the waste being classified as special waste (ie hazardous).
Further information on identifying special waste is provided on SEPS web site.
Regardless of how the waste is classified it should be disposed through the University approved supplier for chemical waste.
