Violence at work

Although not common within most parts of the University, some types of work may expose staff to the risk of violence through their job.  Obvious examples include security staff and researchers who carry out home visits and certain types of fieldwork.  The risk of violence is considered a health and safety issue and should be managed accordingly so that risks are minimised.  This may include provision of training, support systems, provision of communications and, in some circumstances, minimising lone working.  Incidents of physical violence resulting in injury and other “near miss” incidents must be reported to SEPS.  Further information can be found on the HSE website.
