The Travel Process Flowchart (updated 2610124) (pdf file) provides an overview of the travel risk assessment and approval approval process for low risk UK and international travel and for higher risk travel.
Note that preparation of a Trip-Specific Risk Assessment is mandatory if travelling to locations where a FCDO travel advisory warning applies. This applies only if travelling to areas within the destination country that are covered by the warning. It does not apply if travellign to areas of the country that are outwith the FCDO-advised higher risk locations although there may be other reasons why completion of a Trip-Specific Risk Assessment may still be appropriate. Affected areas are described, or shown in map form, on the relevant FCDO country page.
