Arranging IT and Library access
We hope to help you provide your visitor with everything they should need to aide their visit to our University. Below is a guide to help arrange Library and IT services, depending on the duration of their visit.
Affiliate status
If your visitor requires the use of the University I.T. Services, and plans to stay for longer than 4 weeks, they need to register for Affiliate Status. The registration form for Affiliate Status is available here: Honorary/Visiting/Affiliate Status Registration Form
If your visitor is registering for Affiliate status, they should also register for a GUID. For information on this, and how to register, please follow the instructions on the GUID registration webpage. This will facilitate the provision of an ID card, which enables access to corporate IT and wider campus facilities, including the Library. This will give your visitor access to selected electronic resources, specialist advice from College librarians, and research rooms.
Long stay access
If your visitor is at the university for more than 1 month, once they register as an affiliate, they will be able to access the library using the University I.D. card that we will provide them with. They will be able to access many different services that the library has to offer, including; selected electronic resources, specialist advice from our College librarians, and research rooms.
Short stay access
If the visitor is at the University for less than 1 month, you can help organise guest wireless access and Moodle for them. As the sponsor of a visitor, contact the University I.T. Services for a short-term guest access account at least one week before the visitor's arrival.
Alternatively, visitors from an eduroam participating institution can set up eduroam on wireless devices before arriving to Glasgow. Having set up their eduroam access at their home institution, upon arrival in the University of Glasgow, the devices will connect automatically to the University network.
