Strategic Leaders Programme
The Strategic Leaders Programme (SLP) provides an opportunity for leaders to further develop their leadership capability and achieve their career ambitions as well as the strategic aims of the University of Glasgow as a world class, world-changing university.
This programme is targeted at colleagues who are newly appointed, or have the ability and ambition to apply in the next year or two, for strategic leadership roles such as Head of School, Dean, or Director of Service - typically these colleagues are in Grade 9 or 10 roles.
The Strategic Leaders Programme takes place over six months and demands about five days of participants’ time grouped into three thematic modules, coaching, and engaging in action learning sets with other members of the cohort. You will also benefit from a “360°” diagnostic to inform your coaching and learning. Participants will be expected to apply their learning in the context of a strategic project, usually one they’re already working on. They will also be expected to dedicate a small amount of time to some pre-reading before attending each module.
The programme focuses on the role of strategic leaders in a world class, world-changing university with key themes including:
- connecting with global and local communities in setting a strategic vision
- leading collaboratively and empowering others to act
- leading change, including organisational culture change, with agility and flexibility
- demonstrating authentic leadership and resolution in overcoming challenges
- learning from peers and subject matter experts
Recruitment for this programme will normally commence during the summer months and the programme will typically run between September to May each year. Colleagues who are interested in participating in this Programme should have an initial discussion with their line manager and indicate their interest in coordination with their local People and OD (Human Resources) teams.
