Working in Partnership
The University and the campus Trade Unions work within an established framework for consultation in order to promote a culture of partnership working. To support open, honest dialogue and joint working a number of formal consultation forums exist, in addition to more informal dialogue. These are:
- Joint Committee of Consultation & Negotiation (JCCN)
- Policy Review Group (PRG)
- Collective Consultation Forum (CCF)
The JCCN is the main consultation forum where University representatives meet with representatives of the campus Trade Unions. This forum typically hears strategic updates on key issues affecting the University and its staff.
Where there is a need for consultation on individual matters such as organisational changes, meetings are typically arranged locally between relevant managers and Union representatives. A summary report is then presented to the JCCN.
The PRG meets monthly and provides an opportunity for members of the People & OD Team to meet with Union representatives and discuss policy development and/or proposals for any significant changes to policies and procedures. This consultation is critical to the successful development and implementation of policies which contribute to a positive employee experience at the University.
The CCF meets quarterly with the primary purpose of sharing information with the Trade Unions regarding any potential redundancies arising from the ending of external funding or the end of fixed term contracts associated with short-term projects and/or funding. The data is presented in summary form with all personal details removed and, as well as looking forwards, also includes information regarding the outcome for those staff previously identified as at risk in previous quarters.
