Calling PGRs
Published: 22 August 2017
An event is being held in October for Post-Graduate Researchers based outwith Glasgow or outwith the UK.
We know many of our researchers are based outside of Glasgow, sometimes even outside of the UK, and that this can pose problems in terms of accessing the training or advice that others hear about ‘through the grapevine’, writes Dr Elizabeth Adams, Researcher Development Manager, Research Strategy and Innovation.
For some colleagues perhaps, it is also harder to feel part of the researcher community. We would like to warmly welcome our PGRs at a distance to an event in Glasgow on 27th October.
This event will feature:
- Opportunity to attend a Research Integrity Workshop from 2pm-4.30pm (these are mandatory for all new PGRs).
- Meet the PGR writing adviser, Jennifer Boyle, to discuss the support currently available to distance PGRs, including writing bootcamps, and appointments via Skype.
- A meal at a local restaurant, with the chance to meet with other PGRs and UofG staff
- Overnight accommodation in a local hotel (we will cover the cost of this.)
- A welcome event at the UofG Library, which is running the same day and is open to all researchers with talks, tours of the library and archives, one-to-one advice and other activities relating to scholarly publishing, managing your data, findings, and academic identity.

There is now a Yammer group for UofG distance PGRs to connect, and share tips and advice, as well as provide valuable feedback about your experiences as distance PGRs. You can access this by signing into Yammer using your GUID and joining the group ‘Distance PGRs’. We also have a series of webinars planned for this year on common PGR topics.
