Student Carers’ Network
Published: 30 January 2017
Information and events for students with caring responsibilities, and the staff who support them.
Are you a student who provides emotional or practical support to a relative, close friend, or neighbour who can't manage alone?
Or are you a staff member who advises or supports such a student?
Make sure you've read the University's Student Carers’ Policy for advice and guidance.
Missing out?
Erin Ross, the SRC VP Student Support, told Campus e-News: "There's a big issue with students being reluctant to disclose their status or self-identify as carers, and so missing out on the support offered by the SRC and the University."
For example, the SRC runs a Student Carers’ Network, with a Facebook group (contact Erin for details) and regular events for carers.
Erin says: "We have Carers' Lunches, with food and drink and people along from our Advice Centre and from local carers’ organisations, who you can talk to if there are any issues you need help with. It’s also a really good opportunity for you to chat with fellow carers."
The next few Carer's Lunches will take place 12–2pm in the Williams Room, McIntyre Building, on:
- Friday 3 March
- Wednesday 29 March
- Thursday 27 April
- Monday 22 May
