Further to the Director of HR’s recent video on Brexit, highlighting the support we are providing to our non-UK EU staff, we wish to confirm that staff working at the University of Glasgow will be eligible to participate in the second pilot of the EU Settlement Scheme which will run between 15 November and 21 December, 2018.

You are aware that the UK government has committed to protect the rights of EU citizens and their family members currently living in the UK, including the right to work and study here, as well as have access to public services such as healthcare.

The pilot will test both the system and associated communications and provide non-UK EU staff the opportunity to apply early for either pre-Settled or Settled status, before the Scheme is launched around March 2019.

The pilot which includes many HE Institutions across the UK is open to:

  • Non-UK EU members of staff
  • Non-UK EU casual workers who have been engaged by the University within the past 12 months

For this pilot, students are not eligible to apply unless they actually work for the University.

Irish nationals are not required to apply for Settled status but may do so if they wish.

Further information on how to participate will be sent out by Human Resources this week. Participation is entirely voluntary. Applicants apply independently of the University: the University is not involved in any part of the process but will continue to provide up-to-date information to staff where appropriate.

More details of the Scheme and the pilot can be found on GOV.UK and on the University’s HR webpages
