Black History Month events
The University, QMU and SRC have organised a wide range of events to celebrate Black History Month this month. Events range from live performances to panel discussions and film screenings.
The University's Equality and Diversity Unit and The Hunterian are presenting a film screening of the award-winning film 'Black Panther', one of the latest releases in the Marvel Films superhero series.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion, chaired by Dr Andy Smith (Head of Sociology), about the film. Panellists Mata Durkin (President, QMU), Dr Lizelle Bischoff (Trustee of the Africa in Motion Film Festival), and Ginini Atu (3rd year UG and social media coordinator for the Nigerian Students’ Society), will be discussing the significance of 'Black Panther' in the contemporary moment, the representation of Africa in mainstream film, and the importance of struggles over representation in popular culture.
All are welcome to stay for a free, informal drinks reception afterwards.
