The Royal Geographical Society, with the Institute of British Geographers (IBG), has launched a sophisticated, web-based public enagement platform called Discovering Britain.

A website of free, self-guided walks, trails and viewpoints across the length and breadth of Britain that tells the stories of our landscapes. The aim is to help people explore and enjoy our towns and countryside.

The site includes several features in Scotland, with a walk in Glasgow, ‘A Scottish Phoenix’, which explores the city’s Victorian legacy through heavy industry and shipbuilding on the River Clyde.  The walk follows Glasgow’s development through boom, decline and rebirth, and ultimately how its proud past is now shaping its future.
