The Hunterian has had a great start to the new academic year with record numbers of visitors to the Hunterian Museum. This follows a hugely successful 2016-17 which saw a 20% increase in overall visitor numbers.

The Hunterian is Scotland’s oldest public museum and has a number of attractions on campus, including the Hunterian Museum, Hunterian Art Gallery, Mackintosh House and Hunterian Zoology Museum.

The rise in numbers has been attributed to the fantastic programme of exhibitions and events in Hunterian venues on campus, and to the great service provided to visitors by the dedicated Front of House team.

Hunterian venues have received Certificates of Excellence from TripAdvisor for the last six years, and feedback from visitors is consistently excellent, with the Hunterian Museum, Hunterian Art Gallery and The Mackintosh House all scoring 4.5/5 in visitor reviews.

On 29 September the Hunterian Museum provided the final venue for Maggie’s Glasgow Culture Crawl 2017. Organisers praised the tremendous service provided by the Hunterian Front of House team, and the part Hunterian staff played in making the event a great success:

“The Hunterian staff were all so helpful and went above and beyond to help our team.

“It was a fantastic night and it wouldn’t have been possible without the Hunterian Museum opening its doors to our walkers and allowing us to use The Hunterian as our finish venue on this year’s route. It was a wonderful venue and so many of our walkers have commented on how much they enjoyed seeing the Museum out of hours. Everything from the atmosphere in the cloisters to walking around the museum was really appreciated by our walkers.

“The fundraising total for Culture Crawl continues to climb … and we still feel we will raise more than last year. This would not have been possible without all your help and input, thank you so much for making this possible for Maggie’s.”
