Glasgow is once again gearing up for Explorathon 2017 when experts from the universities across the city hold a series of events to celebrate European Researchers’ Night.
The Explorathon programme features something for everyone, from toddlers to teenagers and adults too, in venues including the Riverside Museum, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Forge Shopping Centre on 29 and 30 September.
Activities include a coffee house lecture on the darker side of social media, the UK premiere of the documentary Govan Young exploring the lost kingdom of Strathclyde, and the night-time Explorathon Extravaganza at the Riverside Museum from 6-10pm.
During the day there will be a busy school programme, with around 40 schools in Glasgow hosting researchers to deliver hands-on activities, discussions, debates and interactive workshops. Pupils will have the opportunity to find out about a career in research and take part in our ‘if I was a researcher, I would research…’ social media competition.
Explorathon is funded by the European Commission under the Marie Sklowdowska-Curie Actions programme and delivered by the Universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Aberdeen, St Andrews and Beltane – a network of Edinburgh, Napier, Queen Margaret and Heriot-Watt Universities supporting public engagement.
