The brother-in-law of the late University Piper, Donald Campbell, is hoping to raise £5000 for the mental health charity MIND after just completing a coast-to-coast walk.
Robert Naish managed the long walk from from St. Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire in a record time of five days and seven hours. He covered a distance of 200 miles.
Donald Campbell, who passed away last August, was a member of staff in the University Library for many years, and later undertook the role of the Principal's Piper. For much of his life he lived with schizophrenia.
Robert told MyGlasgow News: "I love a challenge! Those that know me well will know that this is one of several long walks that I have done in recent years. My brother-in-law, Donald, actually took me to the start of the West Highland Way in 2015 and I recall his struggle, oxygen cylinder in tow, to make it from his car to the starting point, so that he could send me off on my way.
"Now, some two years later, Donald is no longer with us. His breathing difficulties were enormous towards the end of his life, but as someone with schizophrenia, he had undoubtedly known even greater battles with mental health issues, throughout all of his adult life. I will be remembering Donald with great affection and admiration."
All monies raised will go to the mental health charity, Mind, and there is still time to donate via the Just Giving web site.
