Industry and Business Award - The UofG's Precision Medicine research
This award will recognise an outstanding contribution that has encouraged, inspired and fostered business growth and development in the city. Partnering with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, the University of Glasgow has driven Scotland’s vision in precision medicine, including the development of over £80m infrastructure to support precision medicine clinical trials at the QEUH. Our new £32m Imaging Centre of Excellence (ICE) includes Scotland’s only 7Tesla MRI scanner, an ultra-high resolution scanner, which is the first of its kind fully integrated within a clinical site in the UK. ICE will drive the development of imaging technology to understand and benefit diseases such as stroke, brain tumours and multiple sclerosis.
The nomination says: "The University of Glasgow’s College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences has enabled the development of a new biomedical innovation cluster at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, which is already thriving and destined to be transformational for biomedical business growth in Glasgow."
Sport Award - UofG world-class athlete Laura Muir
To recognise an outstanding achievement that has fostered the development of sport in the city. They may have inspired others to become more active, been a role model or helped secure facilities and funding within their local communities, region or throughout Scotland.n outstanding contribution that has encouraged, inspired and fostered business growth and development in the city.
The nomination for Laura says: "Laura’s passion for her learning and her sport; her tenacity and her successes; and her sincere and unassuming manner identify her as a role model for children, students and aspiring athletes and she is an inspiration to us all."
