The School of Interdisciplinary Studies based at the Dumfries campus held their 2017 summer graduation ceremony on 7 July.

In his charge to the graduates, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli said: " It’s no exaggeration to say that for me and my colleagues there’s no more important nor more proud an occasion in our calendar – because it’s the culmination of everything we have set out to do as educators, and everything that you have worked so hard to achieve as our students."

He continued: "Do not fear the interesting times that will come your way. Do not shy away from uncertainty and the unknown. You can make the differences you want to see. You now hold the proof in your hands.  You’ve already successfully changed your world – now go out of those doors and change ours."

In her graduation speech, Dr Carol Hill, Head of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies said: "As you look around you; as you take in the splendour of the campus and absorb the meaning of this day of celebration, you would be forgiven for thinking the School of Interdisciplinary Studies had been here for a very long time. And in a way it has.

"We are an integral part of one of the world’s leading universities; the 4th oldest in the English speaking world – but while the University of Glasgow has been around since 1451, its Dumfries campus had to wait another 548 years before opening the doors in 1999. But - it pay to be patient!

For a campus to have become so well established, in so short a period of time, is quite remarkable. That it has, is the result of the University’s commitment to the region and to this School; the dedication of the 50 staff who live and work here, and their ability to blend more than 560 years’ experience with cutting edge, 21st century pedagogy."
