We will shortly be inviting colleagues to apply for an annual parking permit under the current Parking Permit Scheme. The application window will be open from Monday 27 June 2022 until Friday 15 July 2022.

You will be able to apply using a link at the top of the University's Car Parking webpages during the application window only; the link will only be available during the application window.

This applies to all applications for Gilmorehill campus and to new applications for Garscube. Existing Garscube campus permit holders will be contacted separately regarding the renewal process.

The principles of the original scheme (see below) remain, however in line with the University’s commitment to more flexible and agile working we intend to issue a larger proportion of occasional permits than in previous years, allowing staff to book spaces only for those days where they require to travel to campus.

This approach recognises:

  • Our desire to support staff in travelling to work safely
  • Changes in working hours potentially reducing public transport options.
  • Many staff members will continue with hybrid working, spending part of the week working from home/remotely and part working on campus

The scheme seeks to manage the limited supply of car parking capacity effectively and is underpinned by principles of fairness and equality, namely:

  • Disability
  • Requirements for using a vehicle for Business Purposes
  • Contractual requirements for early or late working
  • Caring responsibilities for dependants
  • Access to realistic alternatives for travel

We must continue to ensure that the campus and all parking facilities are safe for pedestrians and other users so cars MUST be parked in marked parking bays and priority given to pedestrians at all times.

Visitor parking will continue to be provided under the terms of the current scheme, with bookings payable online either by card payment or by budget code.  We will be in touch with colleagues to renew other permit types after the main allocation process is complete.

Please note that we are continuing to promote and support active travel options, including installation of more bicycle storage facilities on campus; in addition, I would draw your attention to the Cycle Plus  scheme - more information is available on the University website https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/staff/benefits/benefitsplus/cycleplus/
