A round-up of news across the University
Christmas closure dates reminder
The University will be closed from Monday 21 December until Tuesday 5 January, giving most staff four additional days’ leave over the Christmas period as an expression of thanks in a challenging year.
Tier 4 restrictions
Two of our campuses, Gilmorehill and Garscube, are in local authority areas that moved to Level 4 Covid-19 restrictions on Friday 20 November. These measures will stay in place until Friday 11 December and will have some limited impact on campus operations during this time. Library facilities and study spaces will remain open.
Covid-19 restrictions at our Dumfries campus remain at Level 2.
Top education fellowship awarded
Willie McGuire, Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, has recently been awarded Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, the highest award granted by the Academy. Willie is the first from the School of Education to be awarded this distinction and one of only a handful of Principal Fellows in the wider University. Willie commented that "it was incredibly hard work over a long period, but very satisfying, when I finally achieved it".
Global accolades for experimental film
A short film part-funded by the University is receiving recognition on the international film festival circuit. Drifting with Debord, written and directed by Dr David Archibald (Film and TV) and Professor Carl Lavery (Theatre Studies), has or will be screened at a range of festivals worldwide. The 17-minute film grew out of the Glasgow Glam Rock Dialogues, an experimental performance project established to address pressing aesthetic and political concerns.
