Free events for all ages this September, celebrating research in Europe
The programme for Explorathon, the public festival celebrating research in Europe, is now live at /www.explorathon.co.uk/glasgow, with free events for all ages happening this September.
This year #TeamUofG is well represented with activities and events from all four Colleges, covering everything from languages to literature to women in law and 3D printed proteins.
The programme includes two afternoons of family-friendly fun at the Riverside Museum on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September (1-4pm) for ‘Explorathon Unlocked’.
Explorathon will take over The Forge Shopping Centre on Friday 27 September, with staff and students from the College of MVLS engaging shoppers with cutting-edge health research.
On Friday 27 September from 6-10pm, the Riverside will open its doors for a night at the museum with the ‘Explorathon Extravaganza’, featuring over 50 different hands-on activities and exhibits from the University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian University and The Glasgow School of Art, celebrating the diverse research happening in our city. The evening will feature ‘Travel on Film’, a film screening and Q&A with UofG researchers, exploring themes of travel, colonialism, migration and mobility. Other highlights include an immersive musical experience in the reconstructed Glasgow Subway, an actor playing the story of Haitian revolutionary Toussaint Louverture and the chance to measure your own brain waves.
‘Sounding the Landscape’ on Saturday 28 September (12-2.30on) will feature musical performances and art by PhD students, inspired by residencies at the RSPB Baron’s Haugh Reserve.
Flex your creative muscles at the ‘Much to Write Home About: Creative Writing Workshop’ on Saturday 28, (3-4.30pm) led by Gaar Adams.
