REF 2021 Code of Practice: Staff Consultation

Draft version of Code of Practice runs from 8 - 26 April
As a key part of our preparations for the next REF submission (27 November 2020) we are launching today a staff consultation on the REF Code of Practice.
Submissions to REF2021 must include outputs authored by all staff having “significant responsibility for research”. For the University of Glasgow, this comprises all staff who, on 31 July 2020, are either on a Research & Teaching contract or (exceptionally) are on a Research-only contract and are judged to be an independent researcher.
The University is required to develop a Code of Practice setting out how we will (i) identify staff with significant responsibility for research; (ii) determine who is an independent researcher; and (iii) determine how outputs will be selected for submission, including how we will handle circumstances that have constrained an individual’s ability to work productively throughout the REF cycle.
A draft version of the Code is now available on the internal REF website http://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/research/ref/managingoursubmission/ref2021codeofpractice/. The consultation will run from today until noon on Friday 26 April 2019.
Schools/Institutes, groups and individuals are welcome to comment on the draft Code.
The draft Code builds on the Interim Code of Practice for the Selection of Outputs that was published in October 2018. It has been developed in consultation with Colleges and staff groups, including UCUG (University and College Union Glasgow).
