Changes to access around University Place
Published: 17 January 2020
Vehicle and pedestrian access arrangements for the junction of University Place and University Avenue will change temporarily
From today (Monday 20 January), traffic management around the junction of University Place and University Avenue will change, altering the access point for vehicles and slightly changing the pedestrian route.
This will include works to dismantle the wall outside Botany Gate – which will be reconfigured and re-installed at a later date. Cycle parking facilities will be unaffected throughout the works, with the University bicycle parking outside the Wolfson Medical and Bower Buildings and the NextBike station remaining fully operational.
Access will also remain open for pedestrians and traffic along the length of University Avenue and University Place, with signage and barriers repositioned to reflect the new arrangements.
These changes will be temporary to allow for drainage to be completed in this area, as per the following diagram. Upon completion of the drainage installation, access to the bellmouth will reopen for traffic, from the beginning of March.
There will also be a manned barrier in place on University Place to ensure that only authorised vehicles are allowed to use this route. The barrier will be manned 07.30 – 18.00 hrs and staff should be prepared to show their Staff ID to the personnel manning the barrier.
This work is being done to create new access routes servicing the new Western campus, whilst improving University Avenue and University Place to create attractive and accessible shared spaces.
