Estates and Commercial Services are undertaking an important investment to replace the lift in the Adam Smith Building.
This will significantly improve the accessibility of the building, with a modern and fit-for-purpose lift being installed to replace the existing one which was at end-of-life and had become unreliable.
Work commences this week and is scheduled to be complete by the end of May 2020.
Accessibility:
- During this time no lift access will be available in the building however the flow of traffic between floors/levels and access to stairwells will remain unaffected.
- Ramp access to the Adam Smith Building on the Bute Gardens/Library side of the building will also be closed. This access will be for the site contractor staff only.
- Car parking around the building will operate as normal.
Measures in place:
Teaching will continue to be delivered in the building during this period, however we have relocated all centrally managed teaching that requires accessibility support and the Central Timetabling Team with will continue to review with local contacts, supporting changes as they are needed.
We have also worked with local teams to arrange the temporary relocation of staff where required, or to ensure they are supported as needed.
We will provide further updates as relevant, as the works progress.
Further information or support:
If you have concerns relating to accessibility of teaching or other space within the building during this time, please contact your local course coordinator in the first instance.
