University Place to close for improvement works

Residential and premises, road access and footpath maintained
University Place will close to vehicles from mid-July 2019 until the first quarter 2021 so it can be redeveloped through the Campus Development Programme.
Residential, premises and footpath access along the road will be maintained throughout the works, which will be completed in sections, working east to west.
A Stopping Up Order is due to be issued by the council in June which will remove parking from the street. When finished the road will operate one-way from Byres Road through to University Avenue, with an access control system restricting access to authorised vehicles.
When complete, University Place will be a high quality and functional pedestrian and cycle-friendly route between University Avenue and Byres Road. It will be a gateway to the Western campus at the new Clarice Pears Building and a welcoming new civic space for the West End of Glasgow.
The works will include mature trees and soft landscaping, improved street furniture and cycle parking facilities.
To the east, a new square will be formed between the entrance to the Wolfson Medical building, Botany Gate and the OTC building. Temporary cycle racks will be provided nearby whilst the work is taking place.
A section of parking will be retained at the adopted Byres Road end of University Place for residents of the tenement buildings, for disabled access, and deliveries.
Staff and visitors in the Biomedical Research Centre will still be able to access parking and cycle facilities in the building.
Necessary access to Wolfson, Mail Room, OTC, Forensics, Pharmacy and Maths & Stats will be maintained throughout including emergency vehicles.
Details of the Stopping Up Order can be found via Glasgow City Council’s website.
