Main Gate temporary closure begins
Published: 1 April 2019
Traffic restrictions will be in place until October
The Main Gate is closed from today until October.
The work is to allow for a wider, safer pedestrian crossing to be constructed at the top of the hill on University Avenue. To ease congestion, a one-way system will be in operation on campus until this is completed in October.
During this period, vehicle access to the Gilmorehill campus will be via the Dumbarton Road gate (two-way) and Pearce Lodge gate (entrance only).
From today (1 April) the Dumbarton Road gate will re-open to vehicles and pedestrians. Please note that Multiplex are still working in this area to create improved access, a wider pavement, a passing place for cars and a new path between Dumbarton Way and Kelvingrove Park.
During the works, the Main Gate will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists. Access via the Main Gate, Botany Gate and Chemistry Way will be maintained for high-sided vehicles and emergency services.
Bus stops will be temporarily relocated to opposite University Gardens (westbound) and after Southpark Avenue (eastbound) as detailed on the map below.
There are more details about the traffic restrictions on the University’s website.
There is also a one way system map available, outlining the temporary routes.
