Work has begun on construction of the Research Hub following Glasgow City Council granting planning consent last week.
This marks the beginning of building work on the site of the former Western Infirmary and is a key moment in our campus development programme.
The development of the Research Hub will create a vibrant, collaborative facility at the heart of the Western campus, and represents investment in excess of £100 million.
The Research Hub will host over 600 academics, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students working across five broad research themes. The ground floor will be used by the whole university, as well as being accessible to the wider community, and will become a forum for knowledge change and public engagement.
Work on the project starts this week. Initial activities will include installation of 472 piles across the site. The piling method has been selected to minimise noise and disruption, however those closest to the site may experience some additional noise, this element of work will be complete by end of January 2019, with project completion expected in 2021.
Timelapse shows demolition and preparatory works on the Western Infirmary site between December 2017 and September 2018.
