University Gardens has been closed to vehicle traffic to allow access to the Learning and Teaching Hub site.

A local council order has been granted to Multiplex, the University’s main contractor.  The road is expected to reopen in 18 months once the University's £90m Learning and Teaching Hub nears completion.

Bollards bollards have been installed at the exit on the upper level of University Gardens as a deterrent to parking. Drivers who have been blocked in should contact Security at the Main Gatehouse as they hold the keys to the bollards.

There will be three staffed gates on University Gardens controlled by Multiplex. The first gate will allow access to the University Gardens itself, with gate 2 allowing access to the site and gate 3 allowing exit from the site. Safety for drivers and pedestrians will be the principal concern. Pedestrians will be encouraged to use the footpath on the upper part of University Gardens. Deliveries will be made at agreed times. Multiplex will also erect new hoardings along the University Gardens side of the site this week.

The bus shelter on University Avenue outside the LTH site has been removed and a temporary bus stop is now in place. A temporary pedestrian walkway has been installed along a stretch of University Avenue beside the site. It will remain in place for around eight weeks to allow contractors to carry out work on the installation of the foundations of the Learning and Teaching Hub. Cyclists are asked to dismount to negotiate this area in accordance with Glasgow City Council regulations. Cyclists are being encouraged to find alternative routes while the pedestrian walkway is in place and the route has been narrowed.
