University Gardens / Professors' Square
Parking and vehicle access restrictions.
As flagged up earlier this month, parking and vehicle access to University Gardens were suspended from Monday, July 17; these restrictions will be in place until Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
That notification period has now expired and vehicle owners who continue to park in that area now run the risk of having their vehicle impounded by the council.
Disabled parking spaces have now been moved to the entrance area of University Gardens (see map).
Pedestrians and wheelchair users should note that for health and safety reasons there may be periods during the demolition of the former Maths and Stats building when access may not be available to the Boyd Orr Building via the lower part of University Gardens. They should instead access the Boyd Orr Building at Level 2 via Lilybank Gardens. The demolition operation by the contractor, Graham Construction, will start on Monday, July 31. Dates when access will not be available will be advised in future Campus Development Updates, so please watch this space. This is enabling/preparation work for the construction of the Learning and Teaching Hub.
Some parking spaces have been lost in Professor's Square to allow for the continuing refurbishment of the West side of the Square. This work continues until mid-November.
Boyd Orr Building
Power outages
Users of the Boyd Orr Building are being advised that it is planned to have a one-hour shutdown of power in the Boyd Orr Building on Sunday, August 13, the time to be advised. This will be followed by an eight-hour power shutdown on Sunday, August 20, from 8am to 5pm. These power shutdowns are essential for the relocation of the High Voltage (HV) transformer on Level 1 as part of the refurbishment works in the building.
Anyone who has a critical power requirement should email Rob Andrews: robin.andrews@glasgow.ac.uk
Boyd Orr Building underpass
From Thursday July 27, 2017, there will be no vehicular access to the Boyd Orr underpass while enabling/preparation work is being carried out in that area. Anyone who is planning deliveries to the building should arrange access via Lilybank Gardens and liaise with Boyd Orr janitorial staff who will be happy to assist. Further updates on access to the underpass will be included in future Campus Development Updates in MyGlasgow News. The University apologises for any inconvenience caused.
