Campus development update
Published: 11 October 2016
The first foundations will shortly be going in, and there's a new pedestrian route to the Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre.
Mathematics and Statistics building foundations
Work continues to prepare the north east corner of the former Western Infirmary site for the new Mathematics and Statistics building. From Wednesday 12 October the large chimney on University Place will be removed and work will start to install piling foundations for the new building.
The project team have worked with our contractors to minimise any disruption, however there may be some localised noise and vibration. The piling solution being used is the least disruptive currently available in the construction industry and foundations will be a maximum of 12m deep.
Routes around the site may also be affected during this time but everything will be done to keep disruption to a minimum. The piling work is due to commence on Wednesday 12 October and should take no more than 3 weeks.
If you have any concerns, in particular with vibration and sensitive research, please email campus-development@glasgow.ac.uk.
New pedestrian route to the Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre (WILT)
To accommodate the construction work, pedestrian access to the WILT will change from Monday 17 October 2016.
The new route is along Forensic Lane, just to the left of the current entrance, and it'll lead you to the WILT's back entrance. The front entrance will be closed and inaccessible.
We expect this route of access will stay in place until Spring 2016, when construction of the new Maths and Stats building is due to be completed.
Keep checking here for project updates, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest news as the project progresses.
