The Research Strategy and Innovation Office have launched a new website collecting information about the post-2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment, and explaining how the University is preparing for this exercise.

Visit The Post-2014 REF Exercise to find out about:

  • Open access requirements for REF
Certain types of output must meet specific requirements for open access in order to be eligible for submission to the next REF.
  • Interim Research Reviews
Commencing mid 2017, this project will involve an external review of the research activities in each REF Unit of Assessment.
  • REF selection tool
Allows researchers to select outputs from their Enlighten record for assessment in the Interim Research Reviews. The tool also allows researchers to check whether the output is eligible for submission to REF in open access terms. (MVLS staff do not need to select outputs via the tool)
  • News and updates
Here we will post sector developments, including the REF guidelines when these are published. Keep checking the site as the long-awaited technical consultation on the format of the next REF is due to be launched in late November 2016.

RSIO will continue to update these pages with information about the REF and about the Interim Research Reviews.

Please note that access to the site is restricted to on-campus users only.
