Medical student Andrew Mooney has been highly commended in the Zeshan Qureshi Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education.
The awards aims to acknowledge the efforts of junior doctors and medical students, who in their spare time, have been setting up and contributing to projects to help their fellow students.
Andrew was recognised for his efforts in creating ‘The Medical Applicant’s Handbook’.
Having entered Medicine as a mature student, Andrew developed a passion for helping students in a similar position; this led to him writing the handbook over the 2015 Summer Holidays to help other mature students applying to study medicine.
Andrew has plans to further develop the handbook and distribute it to mature students on Access courses, REACH students and to schools in disadvantaged areas.
Andrew said: “I hope that the handbook will be a useful resource for students from diverse backgrounds looking to gain entry to medicine.”
