Professor Jim Hough from the University of Glasgow's School of Physics and Astronomy stars in a new video from the Royal Society which aims to explain gravitational waves.
The waves, ripples in spacetime caused by massive astonomical events, were predicted to exist by Einstein a century ago, but scientists haven't yet managed to find experimental evidence of their existence.
Advances in sensing technology via international scientific partnerships, in which the University has played a key role, mean that evidence of gravitational waves' existence could be found very soon.
The Royal Society released the video to coincide with The Weekend of Light, which ran from 25 to 28 September and is a highlight of the International Year of Light.
The International Year of Light is a global initiative which will highlight to the citizens of the world the importance of light and optical technologies in their lives, for their futures, and for the development of society.
