It was a first for the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries campus last Thursday (16 July) when two former students returned to the campus to get married in the Rutherford/McCowan Building.

Rory Fairweather and Amy Redden met at the Crichton Campus in Dumfries while studying for Humanities degrees in 2008.

When asked why the couple had chosen to get married within the Rutherford/McCowan Building, Amy said: “Having our wedding ceremony in the University building is just perfect for us as this is where we met.

“We both felt so at home during our time studying, with such a friendly and dedicated atmosphere, that we didn’t want to leave!  The building has lots of good memories for each of us, and so it feels lovely to come back here for something so significant.”

Dr Carol Hill, Head of School of Interdisciplinary Studies, said: “It is wonderful to hear that Amy and Rory have such happy memories as students on the campus that they should want to return here for this very special day”.

The couple posed for photographs in various locations in the building and the sprawling grounds.
