Academics from the University of Glasgow were recognised in the New Year Honours list.
Academics from the University of Glasgow were recognised in the New Year Honours list.
Professor Quintin Cutts, Professor of Computing Science Education and Professor Martin Hendry, Professor of Gravitational Astrophysics and Cosmology are both to receive MBEs.
Professor Cutts, who receives his MBE for services to computing science said “I’m obviously proud and surprised, in equal measure, to have been recognised in this way. An MBE is about hands-on service in a community - and having worked with the computing science school teacher community across Scotland for ten years, I know that this award also recognises the long hours and passion they commit to the subject and their pupils every day.
Professor Hendry who was awarded the MBE for public engagement in science said, “The chance to share my passion for science, and hopefully to inspire the next generation of scientists, already brings its own rewards. Nevertheless I am delighted and proud that my work should be recognised publicly by this honour - which came as a complete surprise.”
Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow said, “I am delighted that our colleagues have been publicly recognised in this way. 2014 was a tremendous year for the University of Glasgow and it is fitting that the efforts of some our most distinguished academics have been rewarded. I would like to add my own congratulations and those of the University of Glasgow to both Quintin Cutts and Martin Hendry.”
