The Glasgow School of Art and The University of Glasgow have signed a new five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU, which recognises the independent status and world renown of both institutions, builds on the existing relationship between The Glasgow School of Art and the University of Glasgow, which has validated GSA Degrees since 1992/93.

The GSA and the University of Glasgow already jointly deliver a number of programmes, including the MEng in Product Design Engineering, which has been running for almost 25 years, and the recently introduced MLitt in Curatorial Practice. They also collaborate in areas such as Medical Visualisation and Design Innovation. Under the new MOU the two institutions will explore further areas of research collaboration and knowledge exchange, and work jointly to maximise opportunities for international partnerships.

Prestigious

“The new MoU is the basis of a five-year collaboration which will help expand the academic reach of both the GSA and the University of Glasgow,” said Professor Tom Inns, Director of The Glasgow School of Art. “In particular we are looking forward to extending the GSA’s specialist studio-based approach to teaching and learning into more areas of the University of Glasgow through joint programmes and collaborative working, and to maximising the potential for international partnerships that put Glasgow in the forefront of Higher Education globally.”

Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal of the University of Glasgow, said: “This agreement recognises the power of our two prestigious centres of academic excellence working together for mutual benefit, bringing to bear our individual strengths and our distinct identities.

“The University of Glasgow and Glasgow School of Art already have a history of strong collaboration, through synergies in research and shared opportunities in knowledge exchange, and this MoU confirms that association and the many benefits it can bring to students and to the city.”
