A group of leading University of Glasgow academics have been elected Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE)
A group of leading University of Glasgow academics have been elected Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).
A total of nine University researchers from a variety of disciplines were among 47 new UK and international Fellows in the RSE’s 2013 intake, announced on 20 March. Fellows are elected following a rigorous examination of their achievements in their relevant fields.
The new RSE Fellows are:
- Michael Barrett, Professor of Biochemical Parasitology
- Dauvit Broun, Professor of Scottish History
- Gerard Carruthers, Chair of Scottish Literature since 1700 and Deputy Head, School of Critical Studies
- René de Borst, Regius Chair of Civil Engineering and Mechanics
- Gareth Jenkins, Professor of Plant Cell and Molecular Biology
- Margaret Maclean, Professor of Pulmonary Pharmacology and Dean of Graduate Studies
- William Sloan, Professor of Environmental Engineering
- Robert Stamps, Professor of Solid State Physics
- Rhian Touyz, Director, Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences
RSE President Sir John Arbuthnott said: “Every year the competition for places is intense and this year is no different, so I am delighted to welcome 47 new Fellows to the Royal Society of Edinburgh.”
