Professor Jill Morrison, Dean of Learning and Teaching at the University’s College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, was recently awarded the prestigious Academy of Medical Educators’ President’s Medal, in recognition of her considerable contribution to medical education in the UK over her career to date.

The award, which is one of the highest marks of excellence given out by the Academy, is awarded annually to an individual who has made a sustained contribution to the advancement of the learning and teaching of medicine and promotion of clinical excellence.

"I am deeply honoured to receive this award from the Academy of Medical Educators," Jill said upon receiving the award.

The Academy of Medical Educators is the professional organisation, working nationally and internationally, for all those involved in medical education – the education and training of students and practitioners in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science. It aims to provide leadership, promote standards and support all those involved in the academic discipline of medical education.

Jill has been based in and around Glasgow for over 30 years, having studied medicine, and later lectured, at the University. During her career she has pursued her research interests in primary care mental health, learning disabilities and medical education. She was head of the Undergraduate Medical School from 2007 to 2010 and now works as Dean for Learning and Teaching in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. She is considered one of the key researchers in Primary Care mental health in Scotland.

Alongside her work at the University, Jill continues to work one day a week as a General Practitioner and was promoted to professor of general practice in August 2001.
