Dear Colleague,

As indicated in my previous message (Monday 20 June) I promised to update you on the decisions of the University Court with respect to the consultation exercise and the budget for 2011-12 following its meeting yesterday.

Details of the outcomes are available on My Glasgow [ http://www.gla.ac.uk/staff/reshaping/academicshape/ ] and further details will be sent from the panel conveners/secretaries to the relevant areas.

I would like to thank and pay tribute to everyone who took part in the consultation process.  It was important that Court had the reassurance that the recommendations of the various panels were shaped and tested by the relevant constituencies, Schools, the SRC and Senate.  Due to your work and participation it had this assurance and on this basis was able to accept and endorse all recommendations.  As a consequence I believe we are now in a position to move forward positively and without the need for structural change committees.  This was always principally a reshaping exercise aimed at better aligning various areas to the University's strategy and I feel confident that in following through on the recommendations we can now achieve this goal.  While challenges remain, I am sure we can build on the outcomes of this process and to the best advantage of the University.

I can also confirm that Court endorsed our budget plans for 2011-12 and would underline the fact that through careful management of our financial position we are not now anticipating a deficit in the years up to 2014-15. This puts us in a strong position as it will enable us to invest in our strategic priorities, a process that is already well underway.

I believe we now have the structures in place,  the right shape, the necessary  resources and a sense of direction through our strategy Glasgow 2020: A global vision, to ensure that we continue to develop as a world class University and among the very best in the world.  I am optimistic that working together we can achieve this goal.
